Hoax call causes chaos at VS hospital

A hoax call threatening to blow up VS hospital in Ahmedabad caused a lot of problems for the city police and the visitors at the hospital.
At around 12noon on Friday, the city police control received a call from an unidentified caller. ‘Hum VS Hospital ko uda denge. Bach sako to bach lo’ – was all a caller said. Soon Ellisbridge police station officials, city crime branch, Special Operations Group (SOG) and Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) rushed to the hospital and started a thorough search. A team of Ahmedabad Fire and Emergency Services (AFES) also joined in the operation.
A thorough search of the hospital premises and vehicles parked inside and outside the hospital was conducted. In the end it turned out to be a hoax call. The police department has said that they have been able to track the phone number of the caller. The investigators, however, did not find any explosive material.
“We have intimated the police agencies concerned and the accused will be caught soon. We do not take any call made to the police control room lightly and thus discourage the practice of hoax calls as such calls waste precious manhours,” MK Nayak, deputy commissioner of police (control), said. Later, a team of city crime branch nabbed Vishal Patel, 19, a resident of Nikol, Odhav, who turned out to be mentally challenged youth.
