Gujarat Global News Network, Ahmedabad
A high level team of JnNURM authorities is visiting the city on Wednesday to inquire into the alleged corruption in the ongoing schemes of Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation.
The team will visit project sites and hold discussions with civic officials during their two day visit.
Leader of opposition in AMC Badruddin Sheikh has alleged large scale irregularities in various schemes. He had filed complaint in JnNURM and based on this the team is arriving in the city. Sheikh had said that due to faulty planning the AMC has suffered a loss of crores of rupees. He said that in south zone storm water drainage line has been laid from Amriawadi-Maninagar-Dani Limda at the cost of Rs.40 crore.
But it has been a waste as the line is intersected at four places. Consequently capacity of line which is around 75 crore litre water has been halved and the project is a waste. Now to cover up their fault the AMC has planned a new pumping station at Bhairavnath at the cost of Rs.4.36 crore.
Similarly Rs. 981 crore has been allocated for BRTS but large scale irregularities have come up. The roads have not been done properly. Instead of reconstruction they have been resurfaced, Sheikh alleged. In EWS houses also there is low quality construction. Huge amount of funds have been misappropriated in this project, he said.
The team will meet Sheikh who will make detailed representation to the members. The team has B P Sridevi, Director (N-IV), MoUD, J B Ravidner, Deputy Advisor, CPHEEO, K D Agarwal, Superintending engineer, Thingom Lalit Singh, Under secretary Finance, MoUD, Pankaj Kumar, Uner secretary, MoUD.
