A division bench of Gujarat High Court today dismissed a petition seeking recovery of the money spent on Sadbhavna mission by Chief Minister Narendra Modi. The bench said that expenditure on functions was decision of executive-the government- and there was no need for the judiciary to interfere in the matter.

In the Public Interest Litigation, the petitioner wanted court directive that about Rs 100 crore spent on the three day Sadbhavna mission from September 17 to September 19 last year be recovered from the Chief Minister as it was public money spent illegally by Modi.

This is the third petition against Sadbhavna Mission that has been dismissed off by Gujarat High Court. The PIL had come up before a division bench comprising of acting Chief Justice Bhaskar Bhattacharya and Justice J B Pardiwala.

The petitioner’s counsel Ratna Vora, said they would challenge the high court’s decision in the Supreme Court. She is also state president of the Women’s Cell of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP).

The petitioner had alleged that Modi’s three-day Sadbhavana fast was neither part of any government programme nor it served any public cause. Dubbing the Sadbhavna mission as a ‘drama’, the petition moved by Ms. Mota further contended that the fast was aimed at deriving a political mileage. Consequently, it said, the expenses incurred on the event should be footed by the ruling BJP or the chief minister himself.
