IAF Mirage 2000 crashes in MP

IAF Mirage 2000One MIRAGE-2000 aircraft of the Indian Air Force (IAF) crashed near Bhind, Madhya Pradesh today at about 1210 hrs. The aircraft had got airborne from Gwalior airbase and was on a routine training-flying mission. The IAF has a fleet of 51 Mirage aircrafts which it operates from Gwalior airbase.

The Pilot Air Marshal Anil Chopra and Wing Commander Ram Kumar ejected safely. There was no damage to civil property and no individual was injured or killed as a result of air crash. An inquiry has been ordered to investigate the reasons for the accident. 

This is the second crash of an IAF aircraft this year. A Kiran MK II trainer plane had crashed into a lake on the outskirts of Chennai on January 30.
