Junior doctors in Gujarat on strike

Resident doctors in three government hospitals went on flash strike on Saturday. The strike is in protest against beating up of a doctor by the relatives of a patient at Civil hospital in Ahmedabad.

Later Bhavnagar and Vadodara doctors also joined the strike.

According to reports a lady from Rakhial, Shehnaz was admitted in the Civil hospital with a complaint of blocked intestine. She was operated last night. But her condition worsened and she died. Enraged at this the relatives had a verbal fight with the junior doctor on duty.

One of the patients slapped the doctor. This infuriated the doctors who went on flash strike in the morning. With about 400 junior doctors joining the strike services in Civil hospital were affected. As the news spread doctors from other two hospitals also went on strike.

The relatives claimed that it was due to the negligence of the doctor that the patient lost her life. While the doctors claimed that her condition was very serious and they provided her the best medical treatment.

It may be noted that attacks on doctors by patients in government hospitals is increasing. The doctors have represented this before the state government and demanded protection and strict punishment for the guilty.
