The state Congress today organized dharnas at all the districts to protest against the suspension of Leader of opposition Shaktisinh Gohil for the entire budget session. The Congress has demanded that the suspension should be revoked.

 

Addressing party workers at dharna programme here, State Party President Arjun Modhwadhia said that the party would gherao Assembly if the suspension is not revoked by Friday. He said that on Monday 12^th March which is Dandi March day, Congress will also take a maharally and gherao Assembly. A memorandum regarding Gohil’s suspension would be submitted to the Governor.

Modhwadhia said that the party would take the issue to the President of India and submit a memorandum to her also. He said that it was unfortunate that the Modi government was trying to stifle the voice of the opposition.

Gohil was suspended on Friday after his alleged remarks that agriculture minister was a business partner of industrialist Adani. This had led to sharp protests from ruling BJP members who demanded that Gohil should tender an apology. When Gohil denied having named anyone and offering apologies the Speaker suspended him.
