The Bhuj Sessions court rejected the remand request of suspended IAS officer Pradeep Sharma by the state CID (crime) y. The CID has accused Sharma in a graft case for using a cellphone whose bill was footed by Welspun, a textile manufacturer based in Kutch.

The plea was turned down by Sessions judge N T Acharya saying the CID cannot seek custody after more than a year of registering an FIR. Sharma was Kutch district collector after the earthquake.

Sharma is facing eight criminal cases filed by the government against him. Coming out of the court, Sharma attacked Modi government, saying he and his brother Kuldeep Sharma, an IPS officer, “are being targeted by the state government”.

“In Gujarat, power lies in hands of one person only. There is no decentralised power, which is very dangerous,” Sharma said. He added, “During (my) 31-year-old service, I was not served even a single notice. And, now, I have been booked in eight criminal cases.”
