Shoes thrown at Judges in Guj HC
Gujarat Global News Network, Ahmedabad
It was high drama at the Gujarat High Court on Wednesday as two litigants allegedly hurled shoes at judges in separate incidents. Both the persons took these steps as they were unhappy with the Judges’ decision.
In the first incident Litigant Ramaji Thakor of Gandhinagar hurled a shoe at Justice M D Shah. He was agitated as the court turned down his bail plea. He claimed his application was rejected without a proper hearing. Fortunately the shoe did not hit the Judge. Thakore is accused in a case of assault in a bank. He was taken out of the court room by the police personal present and was later sent to the Sola police station.
The second incident happened in the chamber of Justice K S Jhaveri. Bhavani Bavaji, a tea stall owner barged into the chamber of the judge and hurled shoes at him. Â Bavaji had filed a petition with the HC a few months ago, seeking his tea stall back from the Municipal Corporation which had seized it. Justice Jhaveri had rejected his petition at that time. It seems Bavaji was inspired by the days earlier event and did the same with the judge.
Both Thakore and Bavaji have been booked under sections 186 (obstructing public servant in discharge of duty) and 353 (assault to deter public servant from discharge of duty) of IPC. The offences under both the sections are non-bailable.
