Life term for Nine convicted in Ode case of 2002 Gujarat riots

Anand District court today convicted nine persons for the murder of three persons in Ode village on March 1,2002. In all 41 persons were being tried in this case. One of them died during the trial. Rest 31 have been acquitted.
Those who have been convicted are Harish Vallabh Patel, Vasant Poonam Patel, Lalbhai Mani Patel, Tinoo Alias Mani Patel, Nilesh Poonam Patel, Prakash Jamna Patel, Ritesh Arvind Patel, Ashok Dahya Patel and Kirit Patel. This is the fourth case of SIT in which judgment is pronounced.
Judge Sareen who conducted trial from the beginning was served transfer orders yesterday. However, it was clear that he would be relieved after the pronouncement of judgment which was scheduled for today. All the nine who have been convicted have been awarded life terms.
In a case of post Godhra riots three of a family of in Malav Bhagol Locality were killed by a mob. The court has found convicted persons guilty of charges of murder and conspiracy under Section 302 and 120 B of IPC.
Three Muslims of a family Kadar Vohra, Ayesha Vora and Noori Vohra were burnt to death inside a house nearMalav Bhagol in Ode town of Anand District. The case was first investigated by Gujarat police and later by the Supreme Court appointed Special Investigation Team.
