Metro Court Lawyers give themselves a vacation

With summer vacations going on in schools and colleges across the states, it seems the lawyers of the metro court in city did not want to be left behind. The lawyers have decided to defy Gujarat HC’s mandate that the metropolitan court work during this summer.
The HC has cancelled special summer leave for 10 days that was granted till last year to each of the metropolitan magistrate during summer vacation. This would automatically ensure 20 day vacation to the lawyers as the courts used to function at half the capacity. Miffed by the HC’s dikkat,the Ahmedabad Criminal Bar Association on Tuesday passed a resolution to stay away from court proceedings for a month, except in urgent matters.
Vice-president of the bar association, advocate Bharat Shah explains, “We have decided not to participate in court proceedings from May 15 to June 15 except in urgent criminal matters, which include bail and remand proceedings. And when there is no lawyer in court, there is no chance of any court proceeding with any trial.”
The Bar association members said that it is very difficult for them to work during summer and in order to avoid difficulty on part of lawyers as well as litigants, they have decided to stay away from trial.
