25 dead in road accident near Sanand

25 people, including 12 children were killed when a truck in which they were travelling overturned early morning today. The incident took place near Chharodi village on the outskirts of Ahmedabad.
All the passengers in the truck were farm labourers going to Dahod from Kuctch. These labourers were sleeping in the back of the truck when it overturned early this morning. While 25 people died on the spot, 22 have been seriously injured. The injured have been shifted to VS hospital for treatment.
Eyewitnesses have reported that the truck was carrying salt sacks as cargo and the labourers were sleeping on them. When the truck overturned, many of them got trapped under the heavy sacks.
The state government has announced compensation of Rs 1 Lac to the families of each of the deceased and free treatment to all those who have been injured.
The labourers worked in Kutch and with the onset of monsoon, they were returning to their native villages to farm their land. 12 children, six women and seven men lost their lives in the accident.
