Ahmedabad gets ready for Rath Yatra with CCTVs, GPS systems

Equipped with high resolution CCTV cameras and GPS systems, Ahmedabad is ready for 135th Rath Yatra of Lord Jagannath to be held on Thursday. The rath yatra that is taken out from Jagannath temple in Jamalpur to Saraspur’s Ranchhodrai temple every year on Ashadhi Bij.
 The city police officials conducted a mock drill yesterday to check the security arrangements and logistics. The drill was attended by 17,000-odd policemen, including top IPS officers, police inspectors, jawans of State Reserve Police as well as Rapid Action Force. This year all police vehicles along with the chariot have been fixed with Global Positioning Systems (GPS) which will help the police officials track their exact movements.  24 CCTV cameras have been put up along the route.
The Rath Yatra cavalcade will be 1.5 Km long and will have 18 elephants, 101 trucks, 18 bhajan mandalis, seven cars and two autos. The Rath Yatra will take off from Jagannath temple at 7am and expected to reach the temple back at around 6:30pm. To keep a watch on the procession from a distance, snorkel cranes having platform will be stationed at Rangila chowky as well as Tambu chowky in Shahpur.Â
According to the police officials, the route has been divided into 64 zones supervised by deputy superintendent of police (DSP) level officers. Two sectors will be headed by inspector general of police (IGP) level officers and the entire plan will be headed by SK Saikia, city police commissioner.
To ensure the smooth movement of the Rath in the city, the police has marked several places along the route of the Rath yatra as no parking zones. Places where parking is banned during the yatra are Jagannath temple to Jamalpur chakla, Vaishya Sabha, Khamasa, Gol Limda, Astodia chakla, Madan Gopal ni Haveli, Raipur Chakla, Khadia old gate, Khadia crossroads, Panchkuva, Kalupur bridge and Kalupur circle, Saraspur, Prem Darwaza, Jordan Road, Dilli Chakla, Shahpur Darwaza, R C High School, Gheekanta Road, Pankor Naka, Fuwara, Sankdi Sheri, Manek Chowk market, Danapith and Khamasa.
