Data theft at IIM-A email, an insider job?
Gujarat Global News Network, Ahmedabad
The authorities at Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad had recently approached the cops with the complaint of possible data theft from the server of the institute. Now the police investigation has revealed that this might well be an insider’s job.
IIM-A authorities had received an anonymous email alleging theft of important data through the internet. The Detection of Crime Branch sleuths in the investigation found that two computers from the IIMA building were used to shoot the anonymous email, informing about the data thefts.
The email did not mention what type of data was stolen and who was behind it. After tracking the IP address from where the email was sent, the DCB sleuths found out that the email was sent from the IIM-A office. Deputy Commissioner of Police, DCB, Himanshu Shukla said, “We have asked the institute to reveal the identity of the users of those two computers so that we can take the probe further.”
