Maya Kodnani gets 28 years sentence for Gujarat riots

Former Minister Maya Kodnani has been sentenced to 28 years imprisonment for her role in the Gujarat riots. Other convicts have also been awarded life imprisonment in the case.
Babu Bajrani, former VHP leader has also been sentenced to life imprisonment. A total of 32 people were convicted by a special court in the Naroda Patiya riots case on Wednesday, in which, 97 people belonging to the minority community were killed.
Kodnani and Bajrangi were held guilty under sections 120 B (criminal conspiracy) and 302 (murder) of India Penal Code (IPC).
Special court judge Jyotsana Yagnik said that Mayaben was an MLA at the time of the incident and hence deserves such an harsh punishment.Â
