Farmer Suicide toll 17 in Gujarat

Even as Chief Minister Narendra Modi is busy chatting with followers on Google, another farmer committed suicide in the state. Ranjit Jesing Barad (30), a resident of Dhamlej village in Sutrapada taluka of Junagadh district hang himself with a tree in his farm on Thursday noon.
Family members of Barad stated that was worried about his crop. He had sown cotton and groundnut in his land but due virtually no rain, there were no chance of saving the crop. This is the 17th case a farmer committing suicide in the state due to crop failure. Many farmers have suffered from crop failure due to the shortage of rainfall.
Meanwhile, another farmer attempted suicide by consuming poison. Gabhru Kalu Shak (50) attempted suicide in the Malanka village in Mendarda taluka. Shak had sown groundnut in the beginning of the season. After the crop failed, he sowed Urad but scanty rainfall damaged the second crop as well. He had borrowed Rs 30,000 from one of his friends. Gabhru has been shifted to civil hospital in Rajkot where his condition is said to be serious.
