Five students drown at Mandvi beach, one missing

What was supposed to be an educational tour, turned out to be a tragic event for the engineering students of Visnagar and Khedbrahma. Five students of from S K Engineering College in Visnagar, drowned in the sea at Mandvi beach while on student is still missing.
As per the police, around 100 students of diploma engineering colleges of Visnagar and Khedbrahma had gone to Kutch on an education tour. Around 20 students went to a wind farm near the beach and then ventured into the sea. But the sea was rough and water level suddenly increased. 17 of the students started to drown. Locals present at the stop rushed to rescue of the students and called the emergency services. Those rescued were taken to the hospital
Three students died in the hospital, while body of two students were washed ashore and found later. One student identified as Kiran Rawal, a resident of Kada village in Visnagar taluka is still missing. The deceased have been identified as Ravi Pandya (19), Bhargva Darji (21), Ravi Modi (20), Hardik Patel (22) and Sanket Patel (17).
Police inspector Jitendrasinh Raulji of Mandvi police station said that,  “They could not judge the depth of water and drowned, we have launched a rescue operation and some of the rescued students have been admitted into the local hospital for treatment,’’
Four students are still under treatment in government hospital in Mandvi. Around 10 students were given primary treatment and discharged.Â
