One of the many lessons that one learns in prison is, that things are what they are and will be what they will be. If the words of Oscar Wilde are anything to go by, Hindutva hardliner Babu Bajrangi may well get used to getting beaten up.
Bajrangi, serving a life term for his role in Naroda Patia massacre, was reportedly beaten up by another inmate, Abbas Sameja, inside the Sabarmati jail premises. Sameja is an accused in the 2008 serial bomb blasts case.
The reason for the spat is not exactly know but jail sources have revealed that it took place when Bajrangi, escorted by a Lok Rakshak Dal (LRD) jawan, had gone to the jail hospital for treatment. At the same time Abbas Sameja and two other inmates were present at the hospital. The argument between the two parties started over the issue of jumping the queue by one of them.
Jail superintendent, RJ Pargi said, “Babu Bajrangi and Sameja had an argument on jail premises, but reports that Bajrangi was beaten up, are baseless. There is no need to make a mountain out of a molehill.”
“We will investigate as to who first started the verbal spat, and how the inmates could get violent despite the presence of security personnel. No such incident has occurred in the
jail precincts in the last 2.5 years” Pargi added.
