It seems the congress has decided to give Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi the tit-for-tat treatment. Union commerce minister Anand Sharma who was in Gujarat on Wednesday said that Narendra Modi has lost his balance.
Sharma’s verbal jibe at Modi seems to be an answer to the verbal assault which Modi had launched on Congress President Sonia Gandhi and General Secretary Rahul Gandhi. “A big decision was taken by the federal government, FDI in multi-brand retail and I read the reaction of Narendra Modi. He has said such things that I feel he has said without thinking or he has lost his balance. We have made a policy keeping in mind the ground realities, our diversity, our complexities, and socio-economic realities. There is FDI in multi-brand retail in other countries as well,” he said
Sharma also challenged Modi to contest Lok Sabha elections from outside the state. Referring Modi’s comments on Rahul Gandhi, he said, “Rahul is a national leader and if he contests elections in Gujarat, he will win. I challenge Modi to contest an election in Bihar and Uttar Pradesh.”
Talking about the pressure on the Union Government to rollback the recent decision on FDI and fuel price rise, Sharma said that he does not believe in the word ‘rollback’ and added that opening of country’s retail sector to investment from foreign chains such as Walmart was suspended last year, and not cancelled.
“We do not believe in the word rollback. The decision was taken last year on November 24 by union cabinet, allowing 51% FDI in multi-brand retail with certain conditions, which are explained elaborately. The second was permitting 100% FDI in single brand retail. The second one was notified, the first one paused,” said Sharma.
