The Gujarat High Court today rejected Gujarat Fisheries Minister Purshottam Solanki’s petition challenging the Governor’s sanction for his prosecution.
In an apparent snub to the state government which had been stonewalling Solanki’s prosecution in the Fisheries scam, the Governor had given the sanction for his prosecution earlier this year. Solanki had then challenged the Governor’s decision. In his petition, he had claimed that a Governor does not have the power to grant sanction for persecution without the aid and advice of the council of ministers.
But Solanki’s petition did not find any takers in the Gujarat High Court where it was rejected. Solanki has the option to approach the Supreme Court.
Solanki is facing corruption changes in a Rs400 crore fisheries scam. He is accused of corruption in awarding contracts for fishing at state reservoirs without inviting bids for their auction.Â
