Come elections, the fondness of the politicians for the youth of the state sees a dramatic increase. Close on the heels of the Congresses announcement of laptops, jobs and loans for the youth of Gujarat, the BJP government has come out with its own set of offerings.

Addressing a gathering as part of his Swami Vivekanand Yuva Vikas Yatra (SVYVY) at Bhuj, Chief Minister Narendra Modi made several announcements. The Gujarat Government has decided to double the stipend of 40,000 youths doing apprenticeship. Modi said, "Presently a youth gets Rs 1490 per month during internship period. I have repeatedly asked centre to increase the internship page. But Manmohan Singh is mum. Now the state government has taken a decision that the Gujarat government will give Rs 1500 from its treasury."

The CM also announced that the state government will be the guarantor for youths who seek bank loans under schemes eligible for loans from banks. The CM also criticized Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for allowing foreign direct investment (FDI) in retail, chief minister Narendra Modi on Friday said that Singh had redefined democracy as “of the foreigners, by the foreigners and for the foreigners.” Veteran BJP leader L K Advani also shared the stage with Modi at Bhuj.
