The Gujarat unit of the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) got a big jolt ahead of the upcoming assembly elections as its Gujarat unit president defected to recently launched Gujarat Parivartan Party (GPP).
Dr Naresh Acharya, who was president of the Gujarat unit of the BSP, along with two general secretaries and two secretaries, announced their decision to quit the BSP and join the GPP at a press meet in Ahmedabad. GPP general secretary Gordhan Zadaphia was also present at the meeting.
According to Acharya, 5000 BSP workers from Gujarat have also shifted to the GPP from BSP. At the press meet, Acahrya was all praise for the GPP and its vision. He said that policy of the GPP to take in people from all communities including dalits, adivasis, backwards and minorities provided a strong political alternative to achieve the dreams of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar.
Asked about why he chose to leave the BSP and join the GPP, Acharya said that GPP being a regional party and its leaders hailing from the state itself understood the local problems more than BSP leaders from outside the state.
“BSP central leadership did not allow local leaders to grow and that was the reason for the BSP not taking roots in Gujarat. BSP’s Central leaders in-charge of Gujarat tried to impose their whims and fancies without understanding the local problems and this caused frustration among the leaders,” Acharya added.
Along with Acharya, BSP state general secretaries Ajay Patel and Ashok Chavda, state secretaries Mohanbhai Rakhaiya and Abhabhai Vegad, Junagadh Lok Sabha in-charge Ayubkhan Darbar and Vadnagar panchayat member Kevalji Thakor also joined the GPP.
