Renowned Magician K Lal passes away

Kantilal Girdharilal Vora, the crafty magician and illusionist, better known as K Lal by his fans passed away today morning.
Lal’s career as an illusionist spanned over six decades and a record 22,479 stage shows across the globe. He also received more than 5000 national and international awards.
Lal was born at Bagasara in Amreli district. But his first performance took place at Kolkata, the city from where he learned the art of magic. His first show was held at Roxy Cinema. Over the next 60 years, Lal’s name became synonymous with magic and illusion. Through his illusions and the use of technology, Lal brought famous personalities, including Mahatma Gandhi to life on stage. Some of the other popular acts include making a train coach, car and an elephant disappear.
“He had always innovated ways on how to use technology in tricks. He was the one who had computerised our shows and used illusion tricks of international standards,” said his son Harshad.
For the past few months, Lal had been fighting with cancer. He passed away at his residence in Ahmedabad at the age of 88. Lal is survived by wife Pushpa, son Harshad Vora and daughters Priti Vasa and Sonal Shah.
Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi and Leader of Opposition Shaktisinh Gohil expressed their grief at the death of Lal.
His cremation is scheduled for Monday noon at Mukti Dham.
