The Gujarat State CID (crime) has booked four policemen including two Sub Inspectors on charges of murder in relation with the deaths of three Dalits in police firing. Three Dalit youths, including two minors were killed in police firing in Thangadh village on September 22 and 23.
Police sub-inspectors K P Jadeja and Bharatsinh Solanki and head constables Yogesh Gadhvi and Nathubha Andubha have been booked in charges of murder, criminal conspiracy and various sections of Prevention of Atrocities Against Scheduled Castes and Schedule Tribes Act. Three youths — Pankaj Sumra (16), Mehul Rathod (17), and Prakash Parmar (26) were killed in police firing. They were a part of the group of Dalits who were protesting against police inaction.
Meanwhile the National Commission for Scheduled Castes (NCSC) has demanded that the matter should be investigated by a sitting high court judge. Rajubhai Parmar, a member of the commission visited Thangadh on Tuesday night and met the family members of victims.
“The state government has ordered an inquiry to be carried out by CID (crime) and another inquiry by department of social justice and empowerment. But, we are skeptical about the impartiality of the probe as all those investigating are state government officials,” said Parmar.
