Nearly eight lakh employees of the Gujarat government are on mass casual leave today to protest against the state government. As a result work at all most all departments of the government has come to a standstill.

The mass leave program has been organized by the Gujarat Rajya Karmachari Samiti, an umbrella organization of all employee unions in the state. The major demand of the employees is the implementation of sixth pay commission's recommendations.

The government had made efforts yesterday to talk to employee unions, but the talks failed and as a result the employees have gone ahead with their mass CL program. While most of the state government employees have taken part in the protest, the only exceptions are employees of the New Sachivalaya Association and probationers. Apart from them, all workers from the rank of deputy collector and below, teachers, doctors, university employees, judiciary staff, and employees of sachivalaya, panchayats, civic bodies, boards and corporations are on causal leave.

The Samiti had planned to take out a rally in Gandhinagar, but the plan was scrapped as police permission was denied. Dharnas have also been organized across the state.
