Gujarat HC rejects IPS officer’s bail plea in Sohrabuddin case
Gujarat Global News Network, Ahmedabad
In a setback to suspended IPS officer Abhay Chudasama, the Gujarat High Court today rejected his bail application. Chudasama, is in jail since April 2010 when he was arrested by the CBI in connection with the Sohrabuddin Sheikh fake encounter case.Â
Chudasama failed to secure bail even after providing several assurances to the court. In his bail plea, Chudasama stated that he could be released on condition of not entering the state limits where witnesses reside, but the court rejected his bail plea.
The bail plea was opposed by the CBI. The CBI's counsel Yogesh Ravani emphasized on the aspect of conspiracy in this case. He told the court that it was who Chudasama allegedly planted Tulsiram to trace Sohrabuddin in November 2005. He submitted that the plan to trick in Sohrabuddin was executed by Chudasama by staging a shoot-out at the Popular Builders' office.Â
S V Raju and Rohit Verma, counsel for Chudasama submitted before the court that Prajapati, a former aide of Sohrabuddin, was a person fabricated by the CBI. They claimed that CBI had framed the Chudasama in order to reach to former MoS Home, Amit Shah, or else the case against Chudasama was completely based on hear-say evidence.Â
Sohrab's brother Rubabuddin also joined in the proceeding opposing Chudasama’s bail plea.
