Gujarat Elections: Two Phase elections on Dec 13th and 17th Dec

The Election Commission of India today announced the date of the election to be held in Gujarat. The election will be held in two phases on 13th and 17th December 2012.
Declaring the dates of the elections in Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh, Chief Elections Commissioner V S Sampath said that the Model Code of Conduct is active in Gujarat from today. The election will be held in two phases on December 13th and 17th 2012 in Gujarat. The counting of votes will take place on December 20, 2012 and the result will be out on the same day.
The date of notification for the first phase of the elections is 17th Nov 2012 and 23rd Nov 2012 for the second phase. The scrutiny of nominations for the first and second phase will be held on 26th November and 1st December 2012 respectively.
The CEC also highlighted that there will be 44,496 polling stations in Gujarat, which is 10% more that last time. Filing of nominations by the candidates as well as the scrutiny of the nominations will be video graphed. Voter ID slips with photo of voter will be provided by the elections commission 3 or 4 days before elections.
Also a committee will be set up to monitor expenditure of candidates. The commission also said that it will take the issue of paid news very seriously.
Elections in Himachal Pradesh will take place on 4th November.
