Navratri would be a lack lustre affair for politicians

Taking stringent steps the Election Commission will not allow politicians to take centre stage during the Navratri festival.
The nine day festival is seen by politicians as a platform to woo voters. According to EC directives members of political parties will even not be able to perform aarti!!
State Chief Election Officer Anita Karwal said that sponsoring of Garba event by any political party or candidate would amount to violation of code of conduct. Banners, photos or cut outs at garba events are strict no. They would not be able to give any prizes or even sponsor them. Violation would invite one year imprisonment, she said.
Strict code of conduct would be enforced during the election period she said adding that in case of complaint of character assassination one year imprisonment would be given.
The number of postal ballots has increased this year. During last elections around 2.50 lakh voters registered for postal ballot and this election the number has increased to 3 lakh. The reason is that for the first time government drivers, conductors and home guards are allowed to cast their vote through post.
