In its state level meeting Bharatiya Janata Party today decided to focus on the seats where margin of victory or defeat was within 5000 votes in the 2007 Assembly elections. Chief Minister Narendra Modi asked party leaders to ensure that there was no public show of discontent of ticket seekers like 2007.

The meeting was held in the presence of Gujarat incharge Balbir Punj. Party leaders were of the view that the competition was more tough this time and they should focus on the seats where fate of the candidates was decided by a margin of 5000 votes. For this a strategy was worked out at the meeting in which these constituencies have been assigned to a team of ministers and senior leaders.

These teams have been asked to spend at least 72 hours in these constituencies for a very well studied report of the situation in the constituencies. This will decide the candidate and strategy for these special constituencies. The meeting in general decided observers for different districts.

Chief Minister who has taken a run up of more than one year for Assembly elections this year, made it very clear that public show of discontent by ticket seekers must be avoided. Already Kohli community leaders attached with BJP have made demand for tickets publicly. The party does not want such incidents to spark off chain reaction and thus damage its prospects in the elections.

Election have assumed great significance for Modi as it would affect his ultimate plans for Prime Ministership. He has already thrown himself into the race and many within the party and in the alliance are disturbed over Modi’s plans. Senior party leader Arunj Jaitely did not attend today’s meeting. Fortnight back Sushma Swaraj did not attend a public function despite announcement that she would be sharing dais with Modi.
