Congress promises slum free cities in Gujarat

Gujarat Congress today promised people slum free cities and round the clock water supply in urban areas if it is voted to rule Gujarat in the Assembly elections to be held in December this year. This is the focus of the tenth point of the Gujarat vision of Congress which was released today.
Giving details of the Congress programme of better city better life, Congress president Arjun Modhwadia said that Congress would reduce to half the present impact fee rate so that illegal construction problem was solved. He, however, said that to check illegal construction in future, action would be taken against officers of the wards on detection of new case.
He said that policy of zero slums would be implemented in all towns of Gujarat within five years. Slums will be replaced by new houses by the government and to complete the task at faster pace, he said, an autonomous body would be constituted.
He said that Congress would set up water authority to ensure round the clock potable water to all in urban areas. Modhwadia said that during his first election, Chief Minister had promised 24 hour water supply. But even after 12 years, it is a dream.
Alleging that there was rampant corruption in Town Planning scheme formulation, he said that TP schemes would be finalized within 12 months of initiation and there would be a rational and scientific formula for the task of change of zone.
Congress proposes transfer of Floor Space Index like Maharashtra. Due to this, he said, liquidity of FSI would increase and there would be an opportunity to build lakhs of new residences.
