SC stays proceedings against Amit Shah
Gujarat Global News Network, Ahmedabad
In a major reprieve to former Home Minister Amit Shah the Supreme Court on Thursday stayed further proceedings against in Tulsi Prajapati case.
The court issued notice to CBI on Shah’s plea that Prajapati case was part of Sohrabuddin Sheikh’s fake encounter case and both cases should be heard together. The court stayed proceedings against Shah till Nov.23 when the case would come up for hearing.
The order has come as a great relief for Shah and BJP in election time. Shah is considered as trusted aide of Chief Minister Narendra Modi and is expected to play a major role in the Assembly elections.
A division bench of Justices P Sathasivam and Ranjan Gogoi asked CBI to file its reply by Nov.23. Senior advocate Mukul Rohatgi appearing for Shah said that there was no need for a separate FIR as Prajapati case came to light during probe of Sohrabuddin case.
The CBI had filed a charge sheet against Shah in 2006 in Prajapati murder case. Shah who is also a main accused in Sohrabuddin and his wife’s encounter case was arrested and later released on bail. But he was not allowed to enter the state. But last month SC lifted ban on his entry to state.
Meanwhile, Sohrabuddin case trial has been shifted to Mumbai.
