Acquisition of land for Solar Park challenged in Guj HC

A public interest litigation alleging that BJP leaders have made money in the acquisition of land for Solar Park by Gujarat government has been filed in Gujarat High Court. Further hearing will come up after Diwali.

The PIL alleges that the land near Patan in north Gujarat was bought at a low price by BJP MLA and ministers and subsequently government acquired it at a high price. The solar park is coming up in Charnka village of Patan district. It has been filed by by a Congress leader from Patan, Farsu Goklani,.

The state government had issued a resolution about the project on April 27, 2010 and issued a notification to acquire land in the area on May 25, 2011. Of the total land acquired by the state government, about 43 parcels were purchased between April 27, 2010 and May 25, 2011 by people from places like Surat who had no apparent reasons to do so, the PIL says

“In fact, most of the people who received the compensation are close aides of MLAs or ministers in the state government,” the petition alleges. He said that while the land was bought as low as Rs 1 lakh an acre while they got Rs 6.9 lakh per acre from the government in the acquisition process.
