The Election Commission of India (ECI) is on an overdrive to check the expenditure made by the candidates in upcoming state assembly elections in Gujarat. In its latest move, the ECI has come out with a rate card of food items like tea, puri, roti, rice, dal, papad. When seeking permission for public gatherings and rallies, political parties and their candidates will have to submit Annexure-16. In the annexure details of such items used along with their cost will have to be mentioned. The copy of this annexure will be available with commission-appointed videography team, which will crosscheck every detail at the venue of the meetings and also will record the.
As per the ECI fixed rates, A plate of puris, two vegetable curries, rice and dal, papad and salad will cost Rs32.50 to the political party (or candidate). Each cup of tea and coffee will cost Rs5 and Rs6 to the candidate.
The ECI has fixed rates for the sound system as well. Extras paid for power generators, fans, water-coolers, television sets, projectors, floodlights, halogen lights and even wires used for poll-related activities will also be accounted for.
