Gujarat Global News Network, Ahmedabad
The Gujarat Congress today declared its manifesto for the Gujarat elections. The manifesto was released Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit at Congress Head quarter at Ahmedabad.
The main highlight of the Congress Manifesto is the Ghar Nu Ghar Scheme, which promises free housing to the poor people of the state. GPCC Chief Arjun Modhwadia took a dig at Modi for 'stealing its ghar nu ghar scheme', he said: "We have already got 50,000 samples and also prepared the model... We will also release a document next few days on how the houses will look like.
He also questioned Modi’s promise of building 50 lakh houses asking why his government did not undertake this in the last ten years. The Congress has promised subsidized diesel, pipeline gas, irrigation, vacant government posts, irrigation, Green Gujarat, all-round development and satellite townships.
Gujarat Congress President Arjun Modhwadia said that the law and order situation is in shambles in the state with over 14,000 children missing. "Under the governance of Narendra Modi, crime against children has increased and almost 14,000 children have been reportedly missing. Nothing has been done in this regard. The police are busy promoting Modi's political ambitions and have sidelined the safety of the people of the state," he said.
Modhwadia, said the Congress government in Gujarat would provide better irrigation facilities, construct more dams (both small and medium), provide VAT-free fertilisers to farmers and ensure regular supply of electricity to them.  "They (BJP) made promises which were never fulfilled. Some of their promises figure in every election manifesto," he said, describing the BJP's poll manifesto as a "document full of lies," added Modhwadia.
The Congress has promised it would provide free laptops and tablets to students, reduce their fees and grant scholarships to minorities. The party said if voted to power, it will also implement the Sachar Committee report which advocates granting more facilities to Muslims to bring them into the mainstream.Â
