Former Congress Leader Narhari Amin joined the BJP today in the presence of Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi and former home minister Amit Shah.
Amin, who quit the Congress a few days ago after being denied a ticket for the assembly elections, joined the BJP at its headquarters at Khanpur in Ahmedabad. Along with Amin, a number of his supporter also joined the BJP.
At the media conference, CM Narendra Modi chose to speak in Hindi, understandably an attempt to address the national media. Modi said that, “I welcome Narhari Amin and other members of the Congress to the BJP. Amin, the former deputy Chief Minister of the state, has been very active in public life. Narharibhai and his friends have shown great strength in taking this decision to join the BJP. I whole heartedly welcome him to the BJP”
“Democratic forces in the state will get stronger with Narharibhai joining the BJP. Dynasty politics will lose. The congress has cheated not just the people of the country but also its party workers. No political party has the right to back stab its workers in this country. The people will not forgive the party for this” added Modi.
Amin, speaking after Modi started by saying that, “Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi will be taking the hatrick of the Congress on this 20th December. Modi has toiled hard to take Gujarat on the National Map and bring development to the state”
“I worked hard as a worker in the Congress for 21 years, but the party ignored my hard work. I urge the people of the state to give the Congress a drubbing worse than what is got in the 1990s in the state” said Amin.
Amin promised to the BJP workers and Modi that he will blend into the BJP just like sugar blends into milk. Amin did not stop at that, he said that “The result of 2012 Gujarat elections is already known. Narendra Modi will become the Chief Minister for the third time is sure, but the people should start working for 2014, so that we can have him as the Prime Minister.”
While on his way to join the BJP, Amin took out a small rally from Ellisbridge to the BJP office in Khanpur. Talking to the media persons on his way, Amin said that after the events of the last few days, he talked to his supporters and well wishers and as per their advice decided to join BJP.
Amin, who had lost both the 2002 and 2007 assembly elections, wanted to contest from Gandhinagar South constituency. But the congress denied him a ticket sticking to its policy of not nominating those who have lost two elections.
Soon after the party denied him the ticket, there were reports of him shifting loyalties to the BJP. Senior Congress leaders including Gujarat Congress President Arjun Modhwadia had tried to placate, even offering him a Rajya Sabha seat, but Amin had remained indifferent.
