Union Cabinet Minister for Housing & Urban Poverty Alleviation, Ajay Maken today cast off the allegations of neglect from the Centre made by Chief Minister Narendra Modi. Instead, Maken said that it is Modi who has made false promises to the people.
Maken said that the Union government had selected eight cities from Gujarat for the Rajiv Awas Yojna for undertaking preparatory work and Slum free city plan. The funds were released in March 2010. But till now the plans have not been completed and financial and physical progress reports are still awaited.
Maken added that while other BJP ruled states like Madhya Pradesh have acted swiftly and got hold of the total scanctioned amount by the central government, Gujarat government has not moved ahead. The centre has set aside Rs 5000 Cr for construction of houses for the urban poor.
The Union minister also raised many questions over the working of the Gujarat government. He said that 1,39,490 houses for the urban poor were sanctioned under JNNURM, only 55,399 houses have been built by the Gujarat govt, even after receiving 73% of the central grant. The government has failed to even utilize the full amount given by the centre.
“Mr Modi had promised building of 15 lac houses in 2002, which has not been done yet,so how can he promise to build another 50 lac houses?” asked Maken.
