Despite clarification from the Prime Minister’s Office that there was no question of handing over Sir Creek to Pakistan the BJP has reiterated that Central government should give pointed answers for the issue.
“BJP has not closed down the issue and the government should reply in yes or no about Sir Creek”, party’s national spokesperson Nirmala Seetharam said.
Talking to reporters here today she said that Chief Minister Narendra Modi had expressed his concern over Centre’s proposed move to hand over Sir Creek to Pakistan. It was a matter of national security and Centre should have responded accordingly. She said that BJP objected to Union Minister calling it absurd. The Centre has replied only when Modi raised the issue, she said. BJP is not satisfied with the response by the Prime Minister’s office on the issue.
To a question about the issue being politically motivated on the eve of Gujarat elections, she was quick to reply that Indo-Pak talks were being held on December 15 and so the issue was being raised.
Earlier during the day Chief Minister addressing election rallies said that there was optimism in the Centre about the deal. He said that PM had said in Teheran that the deal was possible. He said that giving out Sir Creek would be a sell out for Indian interests and threat to national security.
She also raised the issue hanging of Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru. Sitharaman said that UPA government should hang Guru as he has been sentenced to death by the Supreme Court. She claimed that by delaying the hanging of Guru, the Congress is promoting terrorism in the country. On being asked why the issue is being raised in the middle of the Gujarat elections, Sitharaman said that they have raised the issue as today is the 11th anniversary of the attack and he has not been hanged yet.
