Modi using sensitive national security issues to provoke voters: Sonia
Gujarat Global News Network, Ahmedabad
Congress President Sonia Gandhi today charged Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi with inciting people on sensitive issues concerning nation’s unity and integrity.
Mrs Gandhi was referring to the controversy raised by Modi over Sir Creek in the Gulf of Kutch bordering Pakistan. For the last two days Modi has been claiming that people of border area of Gujarat feared that the central government was going to give Sir Creek to Pakistan on December 15. Though Mrs Gandhi did not mention the name of the Chief Minister, it was clear that she was referring to the Sir Creek issue in her speech. She dubbed the controversy a political ploy.
“The UPA government is serious on issues related to national security. During its two terms, it has passed various historic legislations to improve the security apparatus” she said.
Addressing an election rally in Kalol near Ahmedabad today, Ms Gandhi said that Congress party has sacrificed lives of their leaders to protect the unity and integrity of the nation. 'We won't
allow anyone to play with the unity and integrity of the country.
Congress chief Sonia Gandhi also took on Narendra Modi's development plank, charging that the Gujarat government "misused" Central funds to benefit some business people leaving the common man in the lurch. "The government every year gives 3,128 MW of electricity to Gujarat. It is selling 800 MW to earn profits. This is injustice to people who are waiting for electricity connections," she said.
She said that the BJP government in the state was trying to mislead the people by showing false dreams to people. “Ours is not a struggle for power but we want to protect the tradition of Gujarat and the development of the state. We believe in inclusive growth. Like a parent cares for all of her children but
pays special attention to the weak one, we stress special care for the weaker sections of the society.”
Refuting the state government claims that the centre adopted a step-motherly attitude towards Gujarat, Ms Gandhi said that Congress-led UPA government has given 50 per cent more aid to the state than erstwhile BJP-led NDA government at the centre.
