Modhwadia threatens self immolation if Modi tries to sell Sir Creek
Gujarat Global News Network, Ahmedabad
Both Opposition Congress and recently launched Gujarat Parivartan Party today gave a dramatic twist to the Sir Creek controversy raised by Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi. Gujarat Congress chief Arjun Modhwadia threatened self immolation if Modi tried to sell Sir Creek.
On the other hand GPP launched by former Chief Minister Keshubhai Patel said that since Modi was so concerned about national security, he should take back the border land he had sold to Archean group in the Kutch district. Archean group has come into controversy for land in the border area and is said to have links with BJP leader Venkaiah Naidu.
In media interaction, Arjun Modhwadia said that Modi had sold much of the border land and creek area to his businessmen friends at throw away price and wanted to sell the 10 km stretch in Gulf of Kutch. He said that Congress would not allow Modi to sell this creek and threatened that he will self immolate if Modi tried to do so.
The issue of Sir Creek was raised by Narendra Modi through a letter to the Prime Minister in which he had claimed that he had learnt that government was going to give Sir Creek to Pakistan. He released the letter to the media even before the PMO received it. PMO denied any such move and said that it was a poll time mischief by Narendra Modi.
Today leader of Opposition, Shaktisinh Gohil also criticized Modi for raising the irrelevant issue in the sense that it was during the visit of Pakistan Home Minister who had nothing to do with Sir Creek. He said that even if Modi was so concerned about “national Security” he should have written letter but should not have made it public.
Former Chief Minister and chairman of Congress campaign Committee Shankarsinh Vaghela was quite straight in his statement to media. He said that this was one of the ploys of Modi to give communal turn to the election campaign. He said that by the Sir Creek controversy, he wanted to bring word “Pakistan” in the minds of voters.
He said that earlier he brought cricketer Irfan Pathan just to bring image of Muslim and GPP symbol bat. Referring to Modi’s statement that Congress wanted to make Ahmed Miya Patel Gujarat Chief Minister, he said this was also an attempt to bring communal element in election.
