Heavy voting continues for 2nd phase of Gujarat elections

Gujarat CM Narendra Modi Casts his voteAfter the record breaking 70.75% voting took place in the first phase of the Gujarat elections, the second phase seems to be heading towards a similar pattern.

Long queues were visible since 8 am, when voting for the 95 seats began. By 11 am, 21% voting had taken place for the second phase. The figure continued to increase at a rapid pace, reaching 38% by 1 pm.

Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi exercised his franchise at Nishan High School in Ranip at around 9.30 am today morning. Congress' Shweta Bhatt, who is pitted against Narendra Modi from the Maninagar constituency, cast her vote early at polling station with her husband, the suspended IPS officer Sanjiv Bhatt. 

Former home minister of Gujarat Amit Shah, who is contesting from Naranpura in Ahmedabad, and Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Arun Jaitley have also voted.

For the second phase, voting is underway on 23,318 polling stations. The BJP is contesting all 95 seats, the Congress 92 and the Gujarat Parivartan Party (GPP) of former BJP chief minister Keshubhai Patel 84.
