Second phase voters turn out in Gujarat is 70.20 %

Like the first phase, second phase of polling in Gujarat today registered a record polling of 70.20 percent. This is the preliminary estimate given by the Election Commission after the polling ended at 5 pm. This is likely to go up by one or two percent in final count. In the first phase there was 70.75 percent voting.

 

According to Chief Electoral Officer, Gujarat, Anita Karwal, Banaskantha, Sabarkantha, Gandhinagar and Panchmahal districts have witnessed around 72% voting while lowest 64.5% has been recorded in Kutch district.

Except an incident of violence in Sehra constituency of Panchmahal district, polling in both the phases remained peaceful. In this incident gunman of BJP candidate Jetha Bharvad opened fire injuring three Congress supporters today morning.

While in the first phase voting was for 87 seats , the second phase today had remaining 95 seats. The counting of votes will be held on December 20.

The details ofpolling in different districts is , Ahmedabad 70%, Kutch 64.5%,Banaskantha 72%, Patan 70%, Mehsana 71%,Sabarkantha 72%,Gandhinagar 72%, Anand 71%, Kheda 70%, Panchmahal 72%,Dahod 68% and  Vadodara 70%.

She said out of 23,318 electronic voting machines, 0.02% faced technical problem.
