The Gujarat government’s showcase Vibrant Gujarat Summit 2013 kicks off from January 11; the state government has made it clear that the focus is not on attracting FDI.

Interacting with the media, Principal Secretary (Industries) Maheshwar Shahu said that there no specific focus on attracting FDI during the Summit. Instead, the focus is on value creating and building strategic relationships.

Gujarat CM Narendra Modi also stressed forging knowledge-based strategic partnerships, in an official statement he said that "The previous summits focused on mobilising investments across the industry sectors of Gujarat. However, since the 2011 summit, the Government has given special emphasis on addressing need for youth development, increasing skill development and creating employment opportunities, creating more women entrepreneurs and giving a boost to the sunrise sectors such as green energy."

It is learnt that senior diplomats from Japan, UK, China, Canada, USA, Denmark, African countries and Australia, among others, will be attending the summit. Industry leaders from Tata Group, Reliance Industries, ADA Group, Essar, Ford Motors, Mahindra & Mahindra are also going to be present at the summit which will be held between 11 and 13 January.

Like in the 2011 summit, Japan and Canada are the two partner countries this time as well. Japan External Trade Organisation (JETRO), US India Business Council (USIBC), Australia India Business Council (AIBC), UK India Business Council (UKIBC) and Indo Canada Chamber of Commerce (ICCC) are the partner organisations for the summit.
