The UK will be a key participant in Vibrant Gujarat 2013, hosting a large “GREAT BRITAIN” exhibition stand at the International Pavilion and bringing in 50 UK companies, including leading trade bodies.

The UK India Business Council (UKIBC) is a partner organisation at Vibrant Gujarat.

The British High Commissioner to India Sir James Bevan KCMG, and the Chair of the UKIBC the Rt. Hon. Patricia Hewitt, will be speaking at the Vibrant Gujarat Global Investors Summit Inaugural Session on 11 January, at which the British Deputy High Commissioner for Western India, Mr Peter Beckingham, the Director of the British Council in India, Mr Rob Lynes, and the Director of the British Council West India, Ms Sam Harvey, will also be present.

The UK companies participating at Vibrant Gujarat will be from across a range of sectors including advanced engineering, chemicals, education, food and drink, financial and legal services, healthcare, infrastructure, life sciences (pharmaceuticals and biotech) and management services.

UKIBC is organising two seminars at Vibrant Gujarat: one to promote UK skills & education and one on technology transfer. The British Council is supporting the International Conference for Academic Institutions (ICAI) and the Higher Education and Employability seminar at Vibrant Gujarat, and hosting a stall at the Education Pavilion where delegates will highlight opportunities for collaborations across Education and Society, English Language Teaching and Learning and the Arts and Creative industries.

Talking to the media, Bevan KCMG said: "Britain is committed to developing a stronger and deeper relationship with Gujarat. I am delighted at the strong British attendance at Vibrant Gujarat 2013 and look forward to my own participation at the Vibrant Gujarat Global Investors Summit, along with the Chair of the UK India Business Council which is a partner organisation at Vibrant Gujarat. The British Council and UK Trade & Investment will also be prominently active at Vibrant Gujarat. The UK companies that will be attending are from important sectors in which the UK has a strong proposition for Gujarat. The visiting UK companies are looking forward to engaging with companies in Gujarat to foster business ties. The UK is hosting an exhibition stand where any Indian company planning to set up a business in the UK or exploring opportunities for tie-ups with UK companies can access information and professional advice from our sector specialists and trade & investment advisors".

The Rt. Hon Patricia Hewitt, Chair, UKIBC, said: “I am delighted to be leading the UKIBC’s business delegation to Gujarat. As a country partner for the Vibrant Gujarat trade fair, the UKIBC is able to offer UK companies special insight into one of India's highest-growth States, and I expect this conference to be of huge interest and benefit to British business”.
