The case of an 11 member business delegation from Pakistan can be best described with the phrase, “So near, yet so Far”.

In the backdrop of escalating tensions at the LoC in Kashmir, the delegation could not participate in the Vibrant Gujarat Summit even though it was in Ahmedabad, just a few kms from Gandhinagar.

The delegation had come for the three-day business summit being held at Mahatma Mandir in the state capital. Officials said the delegation members had visa only for Ahmedabad. “They had visa only for Ahmedabad, not Gandhinagar, so they could not attend the Vibrant summit. It becomes a security issue. Some of them had visas for Vapi and Surat, so they went there. They had attended some industry symposiums in Ahmedabad on Thursday,” Principal Secretary (Home) S K Nanda

Pakistan was among the 100-odd countries invited by the state government for the biennial business meet. The Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry had confirmed its visit as an association. They had reportedly expressed interest in sectors like textiles, gems & jewellery, and chemicals.
