India needs to rebrand itself globally. Vote bank politics had destroyed the country which now needs development politics, Chief Minister Narendra Modi said here today.

Addressing a huge gathering of students at the Delhi University’s Sri Ram college of commerce Modi said that youth should not been seen merely as new age voters but their potential should be utilized.

Delivering the first Sri Ram memorial lecture on “Emerging business models in the global scenario” he talked about Gujarat where he claimed that good governance had changed the scenario and the state had become the most developed state. He said that good governance should be the main issue of our economic growth to achieve the goals of swaraj.

“There is an environment of pessimism in the country which needs to end”, he said calling on youths to come forward and participate in national building. India has the best potential as 65% of the population was below 35. Europe and China had gown olds but India with its young people can do wonders, he added.

Speed, skill and scale are vital factors in progress, Modi said and exhorted students to think at large scale. He gave example of Gujarat where Vibrant Summit was being held at a massive scale with participation of many countries. He said that government had no business to do business. Minimum Government, Maximum Governance is the mantra for the development of the country, Modi said.

Earlier scores of students demonstrated outside the college building to protest against Modi’s visit. Members of the left All India Students Federation raised slogans like “Narendra Modi go back”. Police used water cannons to disperse the crowd.
