The Supreme Court on Thursday allowed Zakia Jafri to file protest petition against the closure report of Special Investigating Team probing role of Chief Minister Narendra Modi in 2002 riots.
The apex court also directed the SIT to hand over copies of its reports to Jafri.
Earlier a court had disallowed Jafri to file protest petition on the ground that she had failed to do so despite repeated extensions. The court had also stayed her application demanding copies of the SIT report. The state government had objected to giving her the reports.
Zakia is the widow of former Congress MP Ehsan Jafri who was killed in 2002 riots. He and 68 others were burnt alive in Gulberg society even as they called frantically for help. Zakia has alleged that Modi, his ministers and senior cops did nothing to prevent the massacre.
On the basis of her and several petitions relating to various cases of riots the SC had set up SIT for probe into nine cases. Recently the SIT gave a clean chit to Modi in Gulberg case saying that it had found no evidence against him and 61 others named in the complaint.Â
