Ex DysP Vaghela arrested in Sadik encounter case

Former DySP K M Vaghela was today arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for his role in the alleged fake encounter of Sadik Jamal in 2003.
He was produced before the special CBI court which sent him to judicial custody.
The CBI investigating the case had issued a non bailable warrant against him. Vaghela, retired DySP was police inspector with crime branch in Vadodara in 2003 when the encounter took place. He was the key person in the team which executed the encounter. Sadik, a resident of Bhavnagar and small time criminal was killed in fake encounter on the outskirts of the city.
The CBI had filed a charge sheet against Vaghela but he was absconding. The CBI has already arrested eight cops in the case including DySP Tarun Barot and former Mumbai journalist Ketan Tirodakar. It was Triodakar who filed an affidavit in a Mumbai court that he was witness to Sadik’s hand over to Gujarat police by Daya Nayak of Mumbai police who was known as encounter specialist.
Sadik’s brother Sabir had filed a complaint of alleged encounter and the court had ordered CBI inquiry in the case.
