Zakia Jafari gets SIT report

Special Investigation Team has given Zakia Jafari, wife of slain MP Ehsan Jafari, preliminary report of investigation. This follows Supreme Court order that Zakia should be given all reports relating to investigation on her charges against Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi and others.

Zakia has alleged role of Narendra Modi and others in 2002 riots in her complaint. The report was prepared by SIT member A K Malhotra. Besides the preliminary report, the SIT also gave to Zakia Jafari two other reports related to the matter. These reports were prepared by Himanshu Shukla who had investigated the matter.
Malhotra had on May 12, 2010 submitted to the court a closure report. It has absolved Narendra Modi of any complicity in 2002 riots. Zakia Jafari wanted this report, but Metropolitan Magistrate turned down her request. The Magistrate had also rejected her request to allow her to file a protest petition on the ground of delay.
Zakia Jafari had challenged this in the Supreme Court. Consequently, Supreme Court held that Zakia Jafari was entitled to the full report which was submitted to the court in this matter. Counsel for Zakia Jafari has sought time for verification of the report while the Magistrate has fixed next hearing for February 18.
