Gujcet to be held on May 9
Gujarat Global News Network, Ahmedabad
The Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board (GSHSEB) has decided to conduct Gujarat Common Entrance Test (GUJCET) on May 9. The exam would enable a class 12 science student entry into MBBS, BDS (Dentistry) or Para-medical courses. Tests are held for Biology groups – B and AB.
GSHSEB sources said that results of these exams would be subject to the Supreme Court’s order on National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) .“If NEET exams are held, then admissions would be based on the NEET merit list and GUJCET results would not be declared. Nevertheless, admissions to courses such as physiotherapy, ayurvedic, homeopathy, nursing, optometry, etc would be based on GUJCET alone,” said GSHSEB Chairman R R Varsani.
It was recently proposed that in order to create uniformity in medical entrance exams, there should be a common exam at the national level, so NEET was proposed. However, some parents and students from Gujarat objected to it as syllabi of GUJCET and NEET UG are said to be quite different. The matter is subjudice as the case whether NEET should be held or not is pending before the Supreme Court.
“GUJCET would be held on May 9 between 11 and 2 pm at different centres. The merit list would be managed by Admission Committee for Professional Medical Education Courses. The exam syllabi would be based on third and fourth semester of class 12. Question bank too would come out soon to help students,” Varsani said.
