Impact fee deadline extended, rates slashed

Following poor response to its plan to regularize unauthorized constructions under the Gujarat Regularisation of Unauthorised Development Act 2011, the Gujarat government has given another extension to the deadline for the Impact Fee Scheme.
In August last year, February 19, 2013 was set as deadline for availing the scheme, but following poor response, the deadline has been extended for six months. The government has also slashed the fees. Â
The new impact fee structure, premium to regularize construction is as follows
 Up to 50 sq meter - Rs 2000
51-100 sq meter – Rs 4000
101-200 sq meter – Rs 8000
201-300 sq meter – Rs 12000
For construction of above 300 sq meter, the fees is Rs 12,000 plus Rs 100 per sq meter.
The response in in all eight municipal corporation areas — Ahmedabad, Rajkot, Gandhinagar, Vadodara, Surat, Jamnagar, Bhavnagar and Junagadh has not even touched the one lakh figure. There are around 15 lakh illegal constructions in the state.
