FM unveils Rs 1,14,450 Cr budget, focus on Social Services & Neo Middle Class

Finance Minister Nitin Patel presented a Rs 1,14,450Â Cr budget of the Gujarat government for the FY 2013-14 in the Vidhan Sabha today.
The Social Services sector dominated the budget with an allocation of Rs 24,586 Cr going to the sector. Agriculture and allied services sector got an allocation of Rs 1664 Cr in the budget. The finance minister also announced a scheme to include all the promises made by the ruling BJP at the time of elections last December.
Sharing information about the budget, he said that the aim of the budget is to have balanced and rapid development in the agriculture industry and the service sector. The budget also focuses on the Neo-Middle class, a term coined by CM Narendra Modi. Rs 4400 Cr has been allocated for the Mukhya Mantri Awas Samraddhi Yogana. Under this scheme the government will provide quick approval to TP schemes in the developing areas.
The Budget also has an allocation of Rs 9000 Cr for the Narmada dam project, with the government planning to raise its height to 138.68 meters.
The finance minister also said that the FY 2013-14 will have a surplus of Rs 796.45 Cr. The surplus estimate of the previous year has been revised to Rs 281.28 Cr from Rs 727.22 Cr.
